Rae Bareli: The Department of Community Medicine and Public Health at AIIMS Rae Bareli organised a two-day national workshop on “Qualitative Research and Data Analysis Using NVivo 15 and AI” on August 21 and 22, 2026. The workshop was formally inaugurated by AIIMS Rae Bareli Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Amita Jain. In her inaugural address, she highlighted the growing importance of qualitative research methodologies in healthcare research and their role in generating deeper insights into public health issues.
The two-day programme covered the complete qualitative research workflow, combining fundamental concepts, practical exercises and advanced analytical software. Dr Mukesh Shukla introduced participants to the core principles of qualitative studies, theoretical foundations, sampling strategies and ethical considerations. Dr Abhay Singh subsequently guided participants through the process of moving from interview guides to transcripts and effective data management.
Dr Neeraj Pawar conducted a session on qualitative data analysis, coding strategies and thematic interpretation. The workshop also featured interactive group activities to strengthen conceptual learning. Participants developed research questions, prepared interview guides and conducted mock data collection exercises. Technology integration was a key component of the programme.
Dr Saurabh Paul conducted a hands-on module on NVivo 15, through which participants learned about coding structures, annotations, sub-codes and reporting guidelines. They also explored the creation of visual concepts, mind maps and process maps for qualitative data analysis.
Dr Bhola Nath, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, introduced participants to the applications and ethical considerations of artificial intelligence in qualitative research. Participants received practical exposure to using AI tools to generate themes and summaries from transcripts and compared AI-generated outputs with human analysis.
The workshop concluded on August 22 with an interactive feedback session and distribution of certificates. The initiative brought together faculty members and resident doctors from various colleges and equipped them with contemporary research methodologies and technological tools to strengthen healthcare and public health research.
